German premiere of ‘Feast’ by Daníel Bjarnason with pianist Frank Dupree

On April 23, pianist Frank Dupree and Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg will perform the German premiere of Feast by Daníel Bjarnason, with the composer himself as conductor.

Written during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bjarnason found himself reflecting on the cyclical nature of history, noting that pandemics have been recurring time and time again. He also drew inspiration by Memento Mori and the tradition from Dance Macabre, focusing on the concept of ‘death as a part of life’ (Daníel Bjarnason) in this composition.

Feast is dedicated to pianist Vikingur Ólafsson, who premiered the piece with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in February 2022, under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen.
